Turning the archive into recurring product, without putting Steve back on the road.
Steve is off the road and needs to stay off it for now. So we don't sell the tour — we sell the archive. Audio-first, video second, reels running throughout. Passive recurring income and audience growth that ask nothing of Steve but sign-off and copyright.
The health picture (18+ months of recovery, the 2025 heart attack, live work still limited) is exactly why this is the right shape. Everything below is built from material we already hold. When Steve's ready to work again, he steps back to a warm, grown audience and a catalogue already earning — instead of a cold start.
This is the same blueprint we're running on Sean: live comedy recordings → audio albums on the streaming platforms + SiriusXM → reels feeding the channels → video last. Steve's archive is deeper and higher-quality than Sean's, so the ceiling is higher.
Both drives confirmed mounted and inventoried tonight — STEVE HUGHES + TWO 10T. This is grounded, not from memory.
The gold. This show was recorded with two independent audio files: Sound_leicester_sq_STAGE.wav (the board / stage-mic feed — Steve's voice, clean) and sound_leicesterSq_audience.wav (the room mic, separately).
Why it matters: your "pull his voice out, duck the room" is not an AI-isolation job on this show — it's a straight mix balance. We already have voice and room as separate stems. We control the ratio directly. This is broadcast-grade source and it becomes the flagship live album.
210917_0128 S3 / S4 / S12.wav — separated channels from a studio/stage session. Same advantage: real stem control, no isolation guesswork.
"24 UK Shows — All Media" — 138 clips across the run, plus the "Back To The Front" tour recordings.
This is where the same bit exists in 20+ performances. It's the raw material for the best-take compilation — the signature product below.
Each clean solo set becomes a live comedy album on Spotify / Apple / Amazon / SiriusXM, cut into tracks on topic (never on laughs). Passive recurring income that builds a catalogue. Flagship = Leicester Sq (best audio we own). Boho is already 90% there.
Like Sean, Steve reworks material across shows. We take the best-performing take of each recurring bit across the 24-show archive (chosen on laugh-response + ear), assemble a definitive album, and build an A/B version-picker so you and Steve can audition takes side by side. This is the product no one else can make — it needs the whole archive, which only we hold.
Mine the transcripts for mainstream-safe gems → short-form for Insta / TikTok / YouTube. Visually rough / discreet-camera footage is fine here. This is the funnel that grows the audience the albums monetise.
Dan Dion / Goat Song Records (US) opened a conversation ~1–2 years back about a Steve audio compilation for the States. Real opportunity — Steve's profile and material suit the US. Gated on Comedy Store clearance (see §05).
Once the audio is out and earning, the same shows cut to video — full specials where the footage carries it, clips where it doesn't. Audio proves the material and warms the audience first; video is the upsell, not the opener.
Product is the easy part; clearance decides what actually ships. Three things to resolve:
| Gate | Status | Who |
|---|---|---|
| Leicester Sq master (the flagship) | OWNED | JR confirmed — no blocker, build now |
| Master ownership — the other shows | JR ↔ Steve | JR sorting copyright with Steve directly |
| Comedy Store material (feeds the Goat Song / US comp only) | NEEDS ALBERT | Verbal OK only + possible rights issue — see below |
| Walk-on / intro music on each set | Handled in cut | Maggie — strip at cut stage |
Simon at the Store said "just use it, but maybe don't say it was the Comedy Store to avoid issues." That's an informal verbal nod, not a clearance — and "we were told not to mention it" is no defence if we're building a paid US release on it.
JR's read (years in music): there may be a Comedy Store management/recording contract that's since expired, and Steve looks to have never been accounted to under it. Two implications:
Action: park the Store lane; put it to Albert (+ Clara) for a quiet chain-of-title + accounting read before it feeds any release. Not chased hard — the flagship and everything else moves without it.
Steve's archive runs from broadly mainstream gems to material that's over the line for open release. We curate two tiers, flagged per track:
Leave all 29 in the master cut. Some of Steve's material sits on the UK legal line under current law — so we don't censor the edit, we build two release versions off the one master:
The topic-cut makes this cheap: the UK version is just the full set minus whatever's red-flagged (plus any trims) — no re-editing gags.
Don't carry the legal judgment yourself. Albert does a per-track UK-legal triage (green = fine / amber = check / red = UK-omit); Maggie adds the platform + radio-policy pass on top. You get one clear list → build both versions from it. Turns the minefield into a checklist.
✅ INDICATIVE PASSES NOW RUN across all 5 recordings (21 Jul) — per-track panel now live on every act hub. Legal = first-pass risk read; Albert formally ratifies before release.
| Recording | Clear | Check | Uncut-only | Radio-safe |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Sean · Halifax | 18 | 0 | 4 | 4 |
| Sean · Uxbridge | 24 | 1 | 1 | 0 |
| Steve · Boho | 14 | 7 | 2 | 0 |
| Steve · Leicester Sq | 21 | 6 | 2 | 0 |
| Craig · Bloomsbury | 15 | 0 | 0 | 0 |
What the reds are:
Leicester Sq is cut and live: 29-track listen-through, voice-forward board mix, cut on topic. Boho already cut alongside. Two albums in hand — JR reviews next (incl. the 2 flagged bits + room level), then Steve approves.
Transcribe + index the 24-show archive → map every recurring bit → A/B the best takes → assemble the "Greatest Hits" album + version-picker tool. This is the centrepiece of the forward-to-Steve report.
Pull Tier-1 gems from the transcripts as they surface. Steve/Craig channels grow while the albums land. Low effort, continuous.
Once the Comedy Store clearance is definitively answered, re-approach Dan Dion with a finished, rights-clean US compilation instead of an idea. We come back with product, not a pitch.
Cut the same shows to video. Leicester Sq (multi-cam + clean board audio) is a genuine full-special candidate.
1 · Flagship pick — Leicester Sq or Boho first?
Recommend Leicester Sq — the separated board feed is the best audio we own and makes the strongest first album. Boho ships right behind it (already cut).
2 · The forward-to-Steve report — how much do we show?
Recommend: lead with the compilation + the flagship album, name the streaming/SiriusXM income model, and put the two-tier content decision (and copyright) squarely in his hands. Hold the US/Goat Song line until clearance is clean so we're not raising his hopes on a gated route.
3 · Comedy Store clearance — do you want to brief me on where it landed?
You said it "wasn't very clear" last time. Whatever you know shapes whether Goat Song is a near-term line in Steve's report or a parked one. This is the one gate I can't move without you.
4 · Steve + Craig client hubs
Owed, JR's-eyes-first like Sean's. Say the word and I build Steve's hub off this plan next.
Bottom line: we hold a deeper, better-quality archive than Sean's, the pipeline is proven this week, and the flagship show already has separated stems. The only thing between here and a catalogue earning for Steve is your steer on the four decisions above and the copyright you're sorting with him.
